A Selfless Philanthropist
Submitted by a field worker of HDF
project in Mardan
This world of God almighty is a very
vast one. Surely, there are thousand
of undiscovered and remote areas and
deserts where thousands of very beautiful
flowers blossom and spread their fragrance
but remain hidden for human eye. They
complete their life span, fade out
and perish without being seen, smelled
and appreciated by mankind.
The same is the case with human beings.
Although, man has become brutal and
he is busy in torturing and persecuting
his human brother both individually
and collectively. Yet there are some
characters that have zeal in their
hearts to serve the suppressed, deprived
and downtrodden humanity.
One
character of the sort is Mr. Shahid.
He is 27 years old. He lives in village
Khua guli Bagh near district Mardan
of N.W.F.P Pakistan.
Shahid could not continue his education
after doing metric due to his weak
economic condition. Though he is not
highly educated but his will is burning.
He wants to do something for his people.
He deals in building materials on
Nisata road Mardan in open-air, as
he cannot hire warehouse for his business.
When you pass by his open-air shop
you will find him wearing a sweet
smile on his face, sitting on ground.
Several people discussing problems
of the area and trying to find solution
to these problems always surround
him.
As he has a kind heart and a zest
to serve mankind. He made several
NGOs for this purpose namely Eisarulansar,
Tanzeem-e- Khidmat-e-Khalq, Al- Khdam
etc. failing one after another due
to lack financial assistance, but
he did not lose heart.
When HDF entered in to the area,
he was running Al-Khadam organization
which means, “The Servant.”
When I heard of his services and
dedications for the people of the
area I met him. I found him just as
I had heard of him. Keeping in view
his skills and wishes to serve mankind,
HDF asked him to merge his organization
in HDF, which he happily accepted.
He was selected as a president of
local HDF organization with a hundred
percent “Yes” of about
150 members of the organization, 90
of whom are very active workers.
The astonishing matter with Mr. Shahid
is that HDF offered him to work with
organization as CBSM (Community based
social mobilizer) but he refused saying
“I want to serve humanity without
any reward”.
Mr. Shahid has introduced an advanced
HDF in the area too much since 2001,
under the auspices of HDF, he has
established 5 girls schools and two
boys schools. He has also installed
5 hand pumps. Moreover several have
been trained as computer operators.
Several persons have been given loans
amounting upped Rs.360, 000/=. Two
nursery forms for Rs.30000 have also
been established. Each one of these
forms has a capacity of raising 30000
plants.
In the above-mentioned five schools,
300 children are getting education.
In PTA meetings Mr. Shahid discusses
different problems of the children
and tries to find solution to them
not leaving them unsolved.
Mr. Shahid has several proposals
for the service of the people of the
area. He proposes that young people
should be trained for public service.
HDF should take part in building small
bridges, footpaths, drainage’s
getting 20 % of the cost from the
concerned people. Profit rate of 15
% should be reduced, as it is too
much for the people who get loan.
He says that a skill-training center
should be opened for unemployed people.
Mr. Shahid is the most popular person
of the area and every one loves him.
I meet him every week I never saw
him gloomy or hopeless.
People of the area bring their problems
to him who treats with a smiling face
saying we shall discuss these matters
in the meeting. It is my task, leave
it on me.
To me, Mr. Shahid is an ideal person,
if we have men of the same character
in our society, this world can become
a heaven.
