Solace For Shareefan

Shareefan Bibi is resident of Youhanna Abad a Christian community in Moza Khadali district Rahim Yar Khan. She has two daughters and four sons. Her daughters and two elder sons are married and live with their families. One of her younger sons is mentally retarded and other is lingered. Both of them are totally dependent on poor parents. Shareefan is 65 years old thin lady. Her husband is also an aged man. Five months back they used to earn their living by getting fresh vegetables from market of Rahim Yar Khan and selling it in Youhanna Abad. As they had no cycle or other conveyance and Rahim Yar Khan City is 15 km away from there, the poor couple had to walk for about three hours to get there and bring vegetables to Youhanna Abad.

Both husband and wife are old and weak and their exercise left them tired and exhausted. After bringing vegetables to their town they carry them on their heads and went door to door to sell it out. Their old age, limited energies, and physical weakness didn’t allow them to get more than 10 kg vegetables every day. The output of their handwork did not oblige them as they could not cover much while walking in streets carrying the vegetable basket.

HDF started its interventions in Yohanna Abad in Sep. 2002. Shareefan became member of Development Organization Roshni-3.

It is appreciable that their DO took initiative of Income Generation Activities and applied for micro credit package of HDF. Being a member of HDF DO she availed the credit of Rs. 5000/-for donkey cart and started helping her husband in selling vegetables. Now

they go to market of RahimYar Khan early in the morning and get about 25 kg vegetables every day. As they have their own conveyance they can sell not only in Youhanna Abad but also three nearby towns. More area coverage has increased their daily sale and they are selling about 25 kg on average. now at end of the day they have more profit and they are less tired as compared to six months back because their physical activity has reduced and market or daily sales has increased. Shareefan is quite happy and

contented now she has paid first two due installments on time. She has availed the micro credit at right time and used it wisely and now she is supporting her family happily.
