MONTHLY PROGRESS
REPORT
Board Meeting was held in
HDF-National Office Rawalpindi,
Pakistan on March 20th
2003. Following major decisions
were taken out in this meeting.
The proposed budget of
HDF-Pakistan was approved for the
year 2003.
HDF will work only in the
existing HDF-Units (21 Units) all
over the Pakistan and will not include
any new unit in its program area
in year 2003.
The HDF personal policy
will be reviewed and will be amended
with incorporating positive changes.
HDF will adopt and continue
a Confidential Survey Process to
find out the grievances of its staff
members and to bring positive changes
in its policies and procedures.
The salary structure of
the support staff of HDF was revised
and improved as per market demand.
3 senior positions were
announced to meet the current organizational
needs e.g. Program Manager Economic
Development, Program Manager Foundation
Development and Chief Operation
Officer.
To ensure the Broad Based
Leadership and Collective Decision
Making, a Management Council was
formed consisting of all the Program
Managers of the HDF-National Office,
Pakistan. The Management Council
will be responsible to look after
all the affairs of HDF and to take
all the decisions collectively.
The Community members established
3,526 Enterprises by getting the
facility of Credit and Training
from HDF. HDF has disbursed an amount
of Rs. 42 million to assist the
entrepreneurs of its program area
till March 03.
Area Nazim “Sahib Khan”
announced an amount of Rs. 100,000
as donation for HDF-Community Child
Friendly School (Sheikhan # 1)
of Zhob Region (One of the
most remote areas of Baluchistan
Province) in a function arranged
by the Parents Teacher Association
(PTA). Radio Pakistan Zhob broadcasted
the entire program in the local
transmission on March 15th
2003.(see details on 2nd
page)
The first batch of more
than 300 students from HDF Child
Friendly Schools appeared in Class
5th Examination in HDF
Mardan Region.
23rd March was
celebrated with honor and dignity
in all the HDF Child Friendly Schools.
The following honorable personalities
visited the HDF-Program areas during
the Month:
Mr. Saghir Aslam (Board Member)
visited Rahim Yar Khan, Karachi
Kachi Abadi and Shamsabad region
of HDF. He reviewed the progress
and discussed the issues faced by
all the sections.
Mr. Tasneem Ahmed Siddique
(DG Sind Kachi Abadi Association)
visited the Karachi Kachi Abadi
Region and appreciated the efforts
of HDF.
Mr. Jamil from Khushali Bank
Islamabad visited the field area
jointly intervened by Human Development
Foundation and Khushlaibank. He
monitored the progress and Record
at the Community Level at also at
the Office Level.
The Community Physical Infrastructure
Component of HDF in Mardan, Rahim
Yar Khan and Zhob regions geared
up because of active participation
of communities. HDF has initiated/completed
about 60 Hand Pumps, 8 Watercourse
Linings and 1 Link Road with a total
cost of Rs. 3,310,410/ including
Rs. 753,141 of community contribution.
The community contribution either
in cash or in kind is worth mentioning
and showed its confidence on HDF.
Pakistan Poverty Alleviation
Fund (PPAF) asked HDF to present
its Community Physical Infrastructure
(CPI) Project Proposal for Second
Phase, therefore HDF Engineering
Section prepared a comprehensive
project proposal in consultation
of the regional staff of Rs. 80
million and submitted to PPAF.
HDF initiated its Health
Program from its Islamabad Region.
The major achievements of Health
Component during the month were
as follows:
The Lady Health Workers Started
Home Visits on daily basis to deliver
the Preventive Health messages in
Islamabad Region.
Two Community Health Centers
(CHCs) start functioning in two
Villages (Kaleya, Arra) of Islabamabad
Region, and one in Zhob Region during
the reporting month of March 03.
The following facilities are
available in these Community Health
Centers.
Each Center has one LHV, one
Dispenser, two Health Workers and
two TBAs for proper Health Coverage
of the Communities.
To manage these Community Health
Centers, local social institutions
were formed at Village Level (Village
Health and Education Committee)
and at the HDF-Unit Level (Unit
Health and Education Committee).
From day one these Centers
were generating funds for their
sustainability. The Centers generated
a fund of Rs. 3,765 in one month
by providing OPD Services in Islamabad
Region.
SPECIAL
EVENT IN MARCH-2003
The Parents
Teacher Association (PTA) of one
of the HDF-Community Child Friendly
School (Sheikhan # 1) of
Zhob Region (One of the most remote
areas of Baluchistan Province)
arranged a colorful function in
the School. Senior Producer and
Engineer from Radio Pakistan of
Zhob, Senior Head Master of Govt.
High School Sheikhan (Mr. Wadood)
of Zhob, Nobel members of the
Village and Area Nazim “Sahib
Khan” were especially invited
for the function. The Regional
Program Manager Zhob elaborated
the HDF-Education Policy and highlighted
its unique features. The students
presented poems, stories, phonics,
stage show and National Anthem
in Urdu, English and Pushto. English
Alphabets explained by a 2.5 years
old student were quite interesting.
Special prizes were distributed
to the position holders. Area
Nazim “Sahib Khan”
was quite impressed by the performance
of HDF, Community and the Students
and announced an amount of Rs.
100,000 for the construction of
School building. Radio Pakistan
Zhob broadcast the entire program
in the local transmission on March
15th 2003. (The most
significant feature of the occasion
was the performance of one student
named “Abdul Malik” who was previously
abnormal due to negligence and
ignorance and was not allowed
by other Schools to get admission.
3 months before, he got admission
in the HDF-Child Friendly School,
and within such a short period
of time his performance and behavior
was commendable and worth to be
seen).
