Wheels of Hope: A New Ambulance for Bugna

As most people know, many areas in Pakistan were horribly devastated by the earthquake of October 2005. One of those hardest hit was Bugna, where regular HDF newsletter readers will know that HDF has maintained services non-stop almost since the day of the earthquake.

Regular readers will also know the great importance HDF places on “teamwork” and working together collaboratively—be it with individuals, organizations or corporations—to help solve problems and improve lives.

While HDF has established a field hospital/clinic in Bugna, there still were two problems facing the population there: one, people who were living in a very rural part of the mountain and were too sick to travel to the field hospital; and two, people at the field hospital who were in such dire condition that they needed to be evacuated to the nearest urban hospital.

What was really needed was an ambulance.

At this point, a supporter of HDF mentioned exactly this to one of his friends, Stephan Rajotte. Mr. Rajotte currently lives in Hong Kong, which is on the other side of the globe from his native Montreal, Canada.

Mr. Rajotte is involved with several humanitarian causes, including working to alleviate child slavery in Thailand. When he heard about the situation in Bugna, he again dipped into his seemingly inexhaustible well of generosity and procured an ambulance to be sent there immediately.

“I am so pleased to be able to make some, albeit miniscule, difference to the people of Bugna during this difficult period,” Mr. Rajotte said modestly.

Because, as they say, “a picture is worth a thousand words,” please look at the photos of this wonderful and generous gift and think of the incredible improvement it is providing to the quality of life for those in Bugna.

This is yet another example of people coming together to make a difference. You, too, can be part of this movement. Please join us in helping today: www.hdf.com.
