The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, “Forgiveness was granted (even) to a prostitute! (Because) She came upon a dog at the mouth of well, who was panting and was about to die of thirst. She took off her leather sock, tied it with her headscarf, and drew some water from the well for the dog. It was for this act of kindness that she was forgiven her sins. When asked, “Are we rewarded even for good we do to animals?” he replied, “Reward is given for good to any living creature.” [Bukhari & Muslim]

An honored Beautician

By YesPakistan.com Staff

Farzana is an enthusiastic, determined and spirited young beautician. She lives in Adam Hingoro Goth the village named after her father Adam Hingoro who was very popular in the community due to his social welfare works. Her mother Sakina Baji is a councilor and respected woman of the village.

After the death of her father she had to work as a Maasi (domestic worker) in different homes. The disrespectful of house owners pushed her to quit the job. She started spending time at her sister’s beauty parlor. This raised her interest and she began to learn some beautician techniques from her sister. She then started to earn along with her sister.

Unfortunately, suddenly her sister and brother-in-law decided to move to Karachi and sell the parlor. It was a great shock to her because that was the only decent way of earning for her.

In those days HDF had just started working in her village and Ms. Naheed Farooqui, a femail SO, used to come to her home and meet her mother. Her mother formed a female Development Organization (DO) named “Nai Roshni” (New Light).

As the meetings were being conducted at her home, she always used to sit and observe. She liked the idea of DO and thought about benefiting from the Roshni (light) of Nai Roshni. She consulted Ms. Farooqui and got membership in DO.

She presented the resolution in DO for credit to buy her sister’s parlor. The resolution was passed by members and after the appraisal got credit of Rs.30,000 which was paid to her sister and she got her own parlor.

Now Farzana has a successful business. She also started savings in a Business Committee (BC). She is also attending classes in HDF’s Adult Literacy Centre regularly. About the Adults Literacy Centre, she said, “Before going to Adults Literacy Centre, I did not know how to keep records of money I had earned. Now I can keep record of every thing. Nai Roshni (New Light) has really given me brightness.”
