Nazia, a Teacher from Rahim Yar Khan Region

Name of interviewee: Nazia Naz
Teacher in HDF elementary school
Tibba Gharib Shah Village Tibba Gharib Shah
Union Council: Amin Garh
District : Rahim Yar Khan

1. Do you think education is important? Why?
Yes. An educated person has the ability to differentiate between good and bad, right and wrong.

2. What good has HDF done in your region for promoting education?
HDF introduced a new system of education by opening Child-friendly schools and elementary schools. HDF also conducted six month courses for improving adult literacy rate in the area.

3. How many schools has HDF provided in your region and what is the approximate number of children benefiting from it?
I don’t know about the exact no. of schools in the entire region, however I can tell about the no. of schools in HDF unit no.3. There are six Child-friendly schools in the unit no.3, benefiting about 200 students. There is one elementary school in Tibba Gharib Shah where 38 girls are presently studying.

4. Are there any others private, government or NGO based schools in your region? If yes then what is their quality?
Yes there are governments as well as private schools but the quality of education is not the same as the HDF “Child-friendly” schools.

5. Do you think HDF schools are providing better quality of education (including books, teachers, teaching methods etc) than others?
Yes, definitely!

6. If you look at other children studying in the non-HDF schools, what difference you find between HDF and other school children?
In HDF schools children are more confident than students studying in other schools. In HDF schools there is environment of self-respect and healthy competition among students.

7. What would have been the situation of education if HDF had not intervened in your region?
The children those are living far away from city and can not afford to travel might not be able to get any education at all.

8. Other than the primary school what else do you expect from HDF in the field of education?
We would eventually like HDF to include computer education—especially at elementary level.

9. Do you think that education has brought any change in the education of your region? If yes then explain how?
Yes! HDF oriented the rural population about the importance of education through its social mobilization and education program in the region.

10. Are your children happy with the HDF school system?

Yes, very!
