Assalamu alaikum,

At HDF we believe in helping people help themselves rather than creating a culture of dependency and waiting for handouts.

As Fred Shaw says, "The best people to provide solution to a serious, chronic problem are the people who have the problem".

Discover how HDF is empowering communities, women in particular, in Mardan. The story of Husna demonstrates how simple individuals can develop new skills and do wonders in the community.

In a week's time, a special guest known as 'Ramadan' will be entering our lives. Have we prepared for it?

Whenever a guest comes to our home, we prepare in advance for his arrival by vacuuming the carpet, dusting the shelves, and scrubbing the sinks. Let's welcome Ramadan by scrubbing our physical surroundings as well our bad habits and sins!

Contrary to common belief and practice, Ramadan is also the time of intense activity and revival. What a better way to get active than to volunteer?

This week's feature: Learn about benefits of volunteerism, ground rules for volunteers, reasons Pak-Americans should volunteer, and ways your whole family can enjoy volunteering in the community!

Peace,
HDF Team

Rules & Ethics of Volunteerism
In Islam there is a strong ethic of volunteerism. This does not simply extend to running study circles or fundraising for the masjid. As Muslims, we see our role as world citizens. The idea of working for a better society or community shouldn't be limited to the Muslim community but should extend to the broader non-Muslim community as well. [read more]
