Assalamu Alaikum!
Pakistan needs our Dua and our efforts. Ramadan provides an excellent opportunity
for both. The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, has said that
Dua is the essence of worship. Ask Allah for help and guidance, not only for
yourself, but also the leaders of the world.
Pakistan is changing. During the last election campaign, we were surprised
to note that there were as many signboards and posters by educational institutions
and learning- related businesses as there were for people contesting elections.
And now that elections are over, the education, classes, and courses are all
over the city. These are the people responsible for the largest jump in Pakistan's
literacy rate in its history.
Pakistan was born in the Ramadan of 1947. In fact, the 27th of Ramdan was actually
August 14th that year. Let's make an extra effort this Ramadan for Pakistan.
Can you organize an Iftar for Pakistan? Invite people for Iftar and tell them
about the work which we are doing so they can contribute and be a part of this
movement to change Pakistan village by village.
Can you also ask your Masjid to dedicate one Friday or one Taraweeh collection
time for helping people in Pakistan?
Ramadan is an excellent time to donate as well. When you calculate your Zakat,
remember to donate it to HDF, which has a proven track record of helping people
help themselves.

*~*~*~ Liberation from Sins
Abu Huraira related that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
Whoever fasts during Ramadan with faith and seeking his reward from Allah will
have his past sins forgiven. Whoever prays during the nights in Ramadan with
faith and seeking his reward from Allah will have his past sins forgiven. And
he who passes Lailat al-Qadr in prayer with faith and seeking his reward from
Allah will have his past sins forgiven (Bukhari, Muslim).

*~*~*~ Islam in Pakistan
Islam came to Pakistan almost 1350 years ago through traders before the arrival
of Mohammed Bin Qasim. Qasim was a brilliant, 19-year-old Arab general of the
Thaqafi tribe of Taif, where, at one point, non-Muslim Arabs beat up the Prophet
who prayed that if not they, their children follow the path of God. Mohammed
bin Qasim marched into Pakistan by way of Persia and the Baluchistan coast at
the head of an army of 6,000 men to liberate some Muslim women and children
who were being held by Raja Dahir, a local Brahmin king in the Karachi area
who had looted Muslim ships, killed their men, and arrested their women. After
Dahir refused to release the Muslims, Mohammed bin Qasim defeated him in battle.
Within months, most of the majority Buddhist population of Sind invited Mohammed
bin Qasim to their cities to liberate them from the Brahmin control.
