Latest Online Poll: Knew about Edhi?
Develop Pakistan One Family at a Time

Assalamu Alaikum,

Pakistanis are a nation of achievers.

Think of Akhtar Hameed Khan. Hundreds of organizations in dozens of countries follow the Development techniques Mr. Khan developed, practiced and preached in Pakistan. He is the messiah of human development. He practiced what he preached. He worked people to build sanitation system in ten percent of Karachi homes with zero foreign aid and at friction of the cost government does these thing.

Or think of Maulana Abdus Sattar Edhi. For more than half a century, Maulana Edhi, now 76 years old, has been living proof that a primary-school determined individual can mobilize others to alleviate misery and, in so doing, has almost single-handedly created one of the largest and most successful health and welfare networks in Asia.

This are the miracles which HDF has studied and follows. We don't have an Akhtar Hameed Khan or Maulana Edhi in HDF. What we have is hundreds of nameless individuals who volunteer hundreds of hours to develop a non-political movement, enriched with the vision of Akhtar Hameed Khan and empowered by the volunteerism of Edhi in addition to the professionalism and accountability to develop systems and processes in helping people help themselves.

None of the officers or trustees of the HDF board are paid. We travel on our own expanses for the dream of a self-reliant Pakistan.

And thanks to you and other Pak-Americans, this dream continues to grow.

Peace

For more than half a century, Abdul Sattar Edhi, now 76 years old, has been living proof that a determined individual can mobilize others to alleviate misery and, in so doing, knit together the social fabric of a nation. Firmly refusing financial support from both government and formal religious organizations, this self-effacing man with a primary-school education has almost single-handedly created one of the largest and most successful health and welfare networks in Asia. Hero of the poor
This hero was one of the world's most prominent social scientists from Pakistan who proved his class by developing rural areas and low-income urban settlements through Comila project in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) and the Orangi pilot project in Karachi. He achieved it through involvement and motivation of the common man.[read more]

Human Development in Pakistan
The Pakistani nation has often been described as one characterized by “individual excellence and collective failure.” For the millions bearing the brunt of this collective failure, it is as though the stream has finally reached the desert, where it can neither cut through the sand nor go around the obstacles, but keeps turning into a marsh. In order to cross this desert we need to develop a better understanding of this terrain. [read more]
