Assalamo Alaikum,

Many of you have already heard about the major earthquake that hit northern parts of Pakistan and Azad Kashmir.

Our grief and heartfelt sorrow cannot be described in words. Our prayers are with the victims and their families. But besides prayers and kind words, action is needed.

Human Development Foundation (HDF) has decided to take three actions at this time. We need your support to accomplish this. We thank you for your previous support and hope that you will come forward now also.

1. Demand Search and Rescue Missions:
Based on the fact that the lives can be saved mostly in the first few days of the disaster and the fact that Pakistan severely lacks the skill and resources to search people out of the rubble, we are asking our readers and supporters to mobilize the US government through their elected representatives to immediately send Search and Rescue teams to Pakistan. Please contact President Bush, your congressman and senator and ask them for support.

2. Donate Now for Pakistan Earthquake Fund:
HDF has established a fund to help the victims of this disaster. This will be used to fulfill victims' immediate needs and to build their lives and help them stand on their feet. Click here to donate now.

3. Rapid Response Team:
For future disasters we plan to set up a system of mobilizing community. The job of this team will be to contact people, media, and government officials in case of an emergency. This will be a community based volunteer team whose members can be activated on a very short notice. We ask you to come forward and volunteer for this.
