Assalamu alaikum,

It's an unimaginable sight! Quake turns Muzaffarabad and several villages into ghost towns. Thousands of terror-struck people spend night in the cold open areas with rubble scattered all over. Tentative death toll put at 23,000. Hundreds of children believed buried in debris!

We request you all to give from the depths of your heart to help re-build the lives of 42,000 of helpless injured survivors. Please read further if you would like to help out in any other way with the rescue efforts.

Ramadan is the time to re-establish our connection with the unfortunate: poor and unemployed. Please review the statistics on porverty, literacy, and unemployment in Pakistan. Understand the reasons behind the growing unemployment in Pakistan.

As a boy scout I camped virtually next to the epi-center of earthquake where today 650 children are trapped under the rubble of their own school building. Their cries can still be heard. Parents and neighbors are trying to dig them out. But they have no professionals, no earth moving equipment, no k9 dogs to guide the search.[read more]

Disaster Magnitude Stuns the Nation
Millions of people struck by the tragedy continued to live in awe the day after, as repeated aftershocks and the grim news that about 20,000 people had been counted dead, and 42,000 injured so far, reminded them that the danger was not over. Except for some 2,000 who perished in Mansehra and adjoining areas in the NWFP, all the casualties took place in Azad Kashmir. [read more]

While less than one-third of Pakistan’s people are income poor, nearly one half suffer from serious deprivation of several opportunities of life. Nearly two-third of the total adult population (and as much as three-fourths of the adult female population) can’t read or write. [read more]
