Dimensions of Peace and Security
How
Pakistan Can Enhance its Internal Security: Some Preliminary Ideas-
Security must be given a top priority above all issues in Pakistan. An understanding
of the factors behind lawlessness in Pakistan may provide us insight into its
solution. Any government, leader or political party which can provide noticeable
internal peace to Pakistan will be the hero Pakistanis will remember for a long
time!
Lawlessness
in Pakistan- Violence, riot, and terrorism have become a part of South
Asian landscape in the recent past. It is now time that the Pakistani government
began the reformation of Pakistan's internal security apparatus.
Indian
Politics 101 for Non Indians- An insightful analysis of Indian governments'
role in supporting and promoting chauvinistic Hindu movements throughout the
Indian history. If the BJP-led government manages to survive and prosper,
India would assume a muscular, aggressive foreign policy, which will severely
disturb Pakistan's and Kashmir's security.
Enough of the Dark Past-
With the current incumbent military leadership on the verge of blueprinting
a structure to support "genuine democracy", what would be the best
course? Certainly referendum is no solution. It will merely perpetuate an individual's
rule and political instability. The idea of holding a referendum for ensuring
General Musharraf's continuity as President in order to create continuity and
'stability' without having to bank on 'corrupt' politicians is also flawed.

Sectarian Violence: Causes & Solutions
Shia Sunni Dialog in
Pakistan: Why and How
When in a Karachi Shia masjid a suicide bomber killed worshipers on a recent
Friday, the first people who rushed to the rescue were worshipers from the nearby
Sunni mosque in the Sindh Madrasah. They tried to save lives and comfort the
injured before the police and others could arrive.
Jihad
Against Insanity- Christian form a small minority in Pakistan not more
than 1% of Pakistan's 135 million people. Pakistan government and its people
must take action in protecting its minorities, their properties, and the places
of worship. Explore Islam's teachings on the treatment of peaceful non-Muslim
citizens.
Targeting Doctors-
According to one estimate, 70 doctors have fallen victim to targeted killings
in Pakistan in the last four years. Whether one chooses to see these as incidents
of simple crime or carefully planned operations meant to send out a message
and spread fear and terror amongst citizens, the question still remains as to
why any group would want to target one specific community; in this case the
doctors?
Dr.
Anwarul Islam: Another ‘Soft Target’ of Sectarian Violence-
Dr. Anwarul Islam,
an ENT surgeon at the Karachi’s Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, loved by so many, was
shot dead in Karachi on March 12, 2002. Doctors
have become 'soft targets' of the terrorists in Pakistan as their killings make
a big impact and create frustration in the society.
Daily Killing
of Doctors and Government's Double-Standards- It is the responsibility
of the state to play a direct and aggressive role in curbing the religious and
sectarian violence. Whatever its strength or resources, the police of Pakistan
alone cannot check the targeted murders.
Have
Mercy- Our mercy is not a public relationing ploy or a propaganda tool.
It is not driven by a love of headlines. Such motivations can only create a
show of mercy. But the real mercy as taught by Islam requires sincerity and
a more solid foundation. "Those who have no mercy on other human beings,
will not receive the mercy of Allah."
Reports
"Human
Rights Situation Bleak"- Human Right Commission
of Pakistan Report. While the rate of crime against women has has been reduced,
the overall picture of the human rights in the country remained "bleak"
as the military government lacked will to achieve what it publicly says.
