TERRORISM AGAINST PHYSICIANS
The Association of Pakistani Physicians of North America (APPNA) is the only
representative body of Pakistani physicians based in USA and Canada. Members
of APPNA are extremely distressed at the acts of terrorism against Pakistani
people, including members of minorities and physician community. The acts of
terrorism against physicians particularly aim at completely decimating the civic
structure of Pakistani society, further increasing the hardships faced by Pakistanis.
These acts of terrorism also make effective governance impossible. These acts
would also pressurize highly trained physicians to leave Pakistan and to prevent
the return of highly trained physicians from abroad, badly needed in Pakistan.
APPNA condemns these acts of terrorism and ask for these acts of terrorism
to be stopped.
In this respect, APPNA has already dispatched a letter to President Musharraf
conveying the sentiments of APPNA membership. A signature campaign is ongoing,
which would allow the people at large to convey their concerns to Pakistani
authorities for these acts of terrorism. APPNA has also launched a fund-raising
campaign to support families of the murdered physicians.
The membership of APPNA earnestly appeals to the President and people of Pakistan
to protect the dedicated community of physicians and their families, so that
these physicians can effectively get on with their responsibility as healers
of the community.
