Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Every Muslim must give charity.” Some people asked, “What if he has no money?” He replied, “He should work with his hands, and meet his needs as well as give charity to others.” They asked, “What if he could not, or did not, do that?” He replied, “Then he should assist a needy person in distress.” They asked, “What if he could not do that as well?” He replied, “He should then teach good things. They again asked, “And, if he could not do even that?” He replied, “Then, he should refrain from harming anyone. That, too, be a charity on his part.” [Bukhari & Muslim]

Volunteer Work: Lifeblood of Our Community

Helping others is part and parcel of our religion and culture as Pakistanis.

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) helped each and everyone without expecting any reward from them in return. He used whatever he had to better the lives of those around him. His voluntary actions all impacted humanity for the better.

Volunteering is the lifeblood of any community. It is because of volunteers that communities are able to run organizations, social services, conferences, playgroups, drop-in centers, feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, open libraries, run schools, set up blood banks, and the list goes on. Paid employees only make up a small part of the social services network; without volunteers such endeavors would come to a standstill.
